Design Engineering

The Design Engineering department (DE) focuses on education and research of the construction and technical aspects that play a role in the development and design of products that are mass produced or manufactured in series. In addition to the technical interpretation of the function, other aspects such as choice of material, manufacturing and durability also play an important role in the implementation of a technically operational concept. In addition, attention is paid to procedures and other organisational issues observed in the realisation and manufacture; the environmental effect is also studied.

In terms of content, the department is extensively involved in education in the Bachelor programme. In addition to subjects and lab work, a contribution is also made to the integration of the technical knowledge in the general design training on which the programme focuses. The department subsequently provides the “Integrated Product Design (IPD)” Master programme together with the Industrial Design (ID) department.                                                  

In order to accomplish this broad objective in more detail, the department is divided into four sections:

• Computer Aided Design Engineering (CADE)
• Design for Sustainability (DfS)
• Product Engineering (PE)
• Reliability & Durability (R&D)
