Product Innovation Management

The Product Innovation Management department provides education and carries out research in the field of the business administration of product development. The most important subjects are marketing and consumer research, management and organisation, and design methodology. What makes this department special is that the above subjects are studied within the applied context of product development.

The department is divided into three sections.

The Design Methodology section provides education and carries out research in the field of the structure of design processes and design methods. The research focuses on the behaviour of designers as problem solvers and on the development of design knowledge and design experience in education and in practice.

The areas of attention of the Management and Organisation section are management and organisation of product innovation processes, the behaviour of multidisciplinary product development teams and promoting creativity and innovation. The research in this section focuses on developing theories, conceptual models, methods and techniques, procedures and organisation models to improve the quality of integrated product development.

The Marketing section works with theories, models and procedures from marketing and consumer research that can contribute to successful product development. Creating product advantages and gaining market acceptance is the field of marketing research. Consumer research focuses on the way in which consumers relate to new products and the research methods used to predict this relationship during product development.
